Spring 2022 Student Support Resources

Dear Students,

We are delighted to welcome you to your spring semester at The New School and hope your classes are off to a great start. As the new semester begins, Student Success is here to support your academic progress and connect you to The New School community.

The offices headed by your Student Success team are dedicated to enhancing your New School experience through academic and career advising, involvement opportunities, and support services for all students across the university. Please read the sections below for important reminders and resources available to you at the university.

Want to Explore Your Academic Plan or Career Goals?

  • Connect with your Academic Advisor for academic and career support.
  • HireNew, The New School’s easy-to-use online career services portal, features a job/internship board, career event information and registration, and graduate career advising.

Need Support?

  • Student Health Services (SHS) provides virtual counseling and telemedicine appointments, and oversees the student health insurance plan. Schedule a telehealth appointment at shsportal.newschool.edu.
  • Housing and Residential Education provides support to students living in the residence halls and can assist with questions about residence hall suites and facilities, roommate conversations, and mail and package delivery.
  • International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) advising staff are available to offer support, discuss concerns, and help ensure you have all the information and assistance you need to maintain status.
  • Student Disability Services (SDS) supports students in need of disability accommodations. SDS will work with you to arrange accommodations and help remove any barriers to access in and out of the classroom.
  • Student Support and Advocacy (SSA) offers support for non-academic challenges and distressing situations, including financial and food insecurity, as well as general advocacy.
  • Scholarship Advising provides specialized advising to students who wish to apply for national and international fellowships and scholarships.
  • The Title IX Investigator provides support and advocacy for students navigating sexual assault, sexual misconduct, harassment, and discrimination.
  • Visit the Student Resource Hub for additional university and NYC virtual community services and support.

Looking for Activities, Events, Mentors, or Leadership Opportunities?

  • NarwhalNation is your one-stop-shop for campus engagement. Visit it regularly to learn about student organizations, virtual meet-ups, leadership workshops, games and crafts, group fitness, and more. Log in with your single sign-on (SSO) to see all events and get involved. Additional information can be found through our Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI) office.
  • Public Programs and Events offers virtual events with some of the most influential and engaged people, organizations, and institutions around the world. These events range from interviews and readings to performances and screenings, connecting what students learn in the classroom with what’s happening in the world.
  • The New School Network connects students and alumni from around the world into one community. Search alumni by program, year, or location to find mentors. You can also explore social and career networking events, industry specialists, and news. Please contact alumni@newschool.edu with any questions.
  • The University Student Senate (USS) is the voice of the student body. Elected from all schools of the university, the Senate works with senior leaders, faculty, and staff to improve the university in all areas. Reach out to USS for more information about current initiatives and ways you can get involved.

To apply to any of our Master's, Doctural, Professional Studies Diploma, Graduates Certificate, or Associate's programs, or to apply to the Bachelor's Program for Adult and Transfer Students, complete and submit the New School Online Application.
