University Seeks to Begin Contract Negotiations with SENS

On Thursday, June 1, the university notified SENS-UAW Local 7902, representing Academic Student Workers, that we are ready to begin negotiating towards a renewed contract. With the existing contract set to expire on August 31, 2023, beginning conversations now will be important to ensure both sides have ample time at the bargaining table.

The SENS unit represents approximately 1,000 Academic Student Workers, including teaching assistants, teaching fellows, research associates, research assistants, course assistants, and tutors. We look forward to reaching a fair successor agreement that recognizes their important contribution, as well as their unique needs and relationship to the university as paid workers who are, first and foremost, students.

As previously shared, the university has also informed SHENS-UAW 7902 that it is ready to begin bargaining towards a renewed contract for Student Health Workers. Our bargaining representatives have asked to meet with union leadership throughout June and hope to confirm dates shortly.
