This Week in Cinema Tropical, December 9-16

Our series Veredas: A Generation of Brazilian Filmmakers continues at Film at Lincoln Center with more must-see films to catch. The program reflects the range of boundary-pushing Brazilian film in order to showcase work from a vast and influential generation that is indelibly leaving its mark on the local and international film circuit. Veredas highlights this cinematic new wave and presents a vision of Brazil that is at long last reflective of the country’s continental diversity.

As part of Veredas, don’t miss this Tuesday the New York premiere of Invisible Life, Brazil’s Oscar candidate winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Director Karim Aïnouz will be in attendance for a Q&A.

And this Thursday join us at Anthology Film Archives for a tribute to the late Brazilian filmmaker Luiz Rosemberg Filho (1943-2019), one of the key figures of Cinema Marginal, with the U.S. premiere of his last film Paraguay War.
