2020 May Sumak: Quichwa Film Showcase
May Sumak: Quichwa Film Showcase is a (FREE) event series featuring three days of Quechua/Kichwa film screenings, workshops and discussions. The showcase is a celebration of Indigenous and community filmmaking in the Quechua languages spoken throughout the Andes and by immigrants in the United States.

Thursday, October 22, 2020 7pm-9pm ET: Runa Ñawi Workshop: Sacred Territories: Reclaiming our stories through visual narratives. This workshop will delve into a brief overview of indigenous photographers that have been challenging the ways in which indigenous communities are represented, learn tools to decolonize the construction of the image, and engage in a dialogue about how radically and compassionately looking at ourselves we reclaim our own stories. *Deadline to sign up for this workshop is Sunday, Oct 21 at 5PM (EST). * This workshop will be held in Spanish.

Friday, October 23, 2020 8pm ET: Ayllukunamanta Yuyay, Memorias de Comunidad/ Memories of Community. Films that speak to the continuity of relationships across migratory realities. Películas que hablan de la continuidad de las relaciones a través de las realidades migratorias

Friday, October 30, 2020 8pm ET: Sinchi Sapi, Raíces Fuertes/ Strong Roots. Films that speak to the way we, as Quechua/Kichwa communities, relate to our roots through our struggles for land and belonging. Películas que hablan de la manera en que nosotrxs, como comunidades Quechuas/Kichwas, nos relacionamos con nuestrxs raíces a través de nuestrxs luchas por la tierra y la pertenencia.
