Associate Professor of Media Studies DEIRDRE BOYLE will be a respondent for the book launch of Raya Morag’s Perpetrator Cinema: Confronting Genocide in Cambodian Documentary (Columbia University Press, 2020). This webinar on May 13, 2021 is sponsored by The Perpetrator Studies Network. Professor Morag, who is Chair of Cinema Studies at Hebrew University in Tel Aviv, will discuss her book with scholars Ben Kiernan and Deirdre Boyle, moderated by Vicente Sánchez-Biosca.  Boyle is the author of a new book on Cambodia’s most celebrated director and genocide survivor; Ferryman of Memories: The Films of Rithy Panh is forthcoming from Rutgers University Press.

Associate Professor DEIRDRE BOYLE is the author of an essay commissioned by the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive for its special N.E.H. preservation initiative highlighting the work of the pioneering Seventies’ guerrilla television group TVTV. Her essay, “The Eternal Return of Video Innovation,” will be available on the museum’s website and looks at the forgotten link between early video and new media’s role today as a tool, a weapon, and a witness.
