Neyda Martinez Gains Investment for Documentary Film, “Bartolo”

Ford Foundation invested over $4.2 million to support new documentary films focused on social justice. One of those films is Bartolo, directed by Leandro Fabrizi Rios and produced by Carol Colmenares and Neyda Martinez, SMS’s Director of the Media Management Graduate Program & Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Media Management.

Bartolo is set in the rural coffee-growing mountainside hamlet of the same name in remote western Puerto Rico. It is home to an isolated agricultural community of just 12 families, landless and chronically impoverished, and longing for a new start following catastrophic climate events. The community seizes on a chance for a new beginning when a veteran organizer from outside of Bartolo comes to town with a radical new plan.
