Producing Films: Transdisciplinary Research and Practice In Conversation with Judith Lou Lévy
Judith Lou Lévy will share her experience as an independent film producer, discussing the transdisciplinary ways of being required to initiate and guide cinema productions with some of the most adventurous and original filmmakers and projects. Lou Lévy will share excerpts from films, in conversation with John Bruce.
Judith Lou Lévy founded the independent production company Les Films du Bal in 2011, after completing a Masters’s Degree from Sciences-Po. She has produced many short films and feature films including Benjamin Crotty’s FORT BUCHANAN (New Directors New Films 2016); Mati Diop’s first feature film ATLANTICS, awarded the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, ZOMBI CHILD by Bertrand Bonello which was selected at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight; AHED’S KNEE by Nadav Lapid, winning the Cannes Film Festival JURY PRIZE (2021); THE VOURDALAK, a horror queer movie by Adrien Beau, which premiered at the Settimana Internazionale della Critica (Venice) in 2023. Most recently, Lou Lévy produced Mati Diop’s feature DAHOMEY, awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival 2024. Judith has extended her activity through more collective commitments such as her active participation in diverse cinema associations and the Call to the General States of Cinema in Paris in 2022.
