Golden Dove Award Recipient, Peter Asaro Meets Italian President Sergio Mattarella

Associate Professor of Media Studies, Peter Asaro met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella yesterday, as the recipient of the Golden Dove Award.

Representing the Stop Killer Robots Campaign, Peter thanked President Mattarella and Italy for their leadership at the UN in supporting efforts to regulate and ban autonomous weapons. He urged Italy to continue pushing for a treaty by the 2026 deadline, emphasizing the dangers these systems pose to human rights and dignity.

Asaro called for global cooperation during times of crisis, stating that a treaty on autonomous weapons could set a precedent for broader AI governance. He warned that the risks to humanity are too great to let fear and distrust hinder progress.
