Filmmaker and former SMS Artist in Residence Raoul Peck’s Ernest Cole: Lost and Found premieres at DOC NYC

Magnolia Pictures is proud to present Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, an extraordinary new documentary by celebrated filmmaker Raoul Peck, premiering in theaters on November 22. Known for his impactful work on I Am Not Your Negro, Peck—also a former Hirshon Artist in Residence at The New School’s School of Media Studies—delves into the life of Ernest Cole, one of South Africa’s first Black freelance photographers. Through his lens, Cole boldly documented Black life under apartheid, images that shocked and educated the world.

Narrated by LaKeith Stanfield, who gives voice to Cole’s words and vision, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found has garnered international praise, winning the top documentary prize at Cannes and premiering across North America at the Toronto International Film Festival. New York audiences will have a chance to see it at DOC NYC this November.

Aligned with The New School’s commitment to critical media discourse, Magnolia Pictures is offering collaboration opportunities to engage the School of Media Studies community, including group ticket discounts, private screenings with talkbacks, and ticket giveaways.

Witness the legacy of Ernest Cole as Raoul Peck brings his story to life, offering a powerful reflection on history, storytelling, and the role of visual media.
