Celebrating Sean Baker’s Landmark Oscar Wins and His Legacy

Congratulations to Sean Baker (@BakerMovies) on his outstanding achievement at the Oscars. Anora received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

As the 2018 Dorothy H. Hirshon Director-in-Residence, Baker was recognized for his socially engaged and stylistically bold approach to filmmaking – core values of the School of Media Studies.

‘Sean’s films resonate with our students and the type of filmmaking we foster at the School of Media Studies,’ said Dean Vladan Nikolic. ‘While he has recently received well-deserved mainstream acclaim, he has been exploring underrepresented narratives for two decades, telling stories about the “hidden homeless” in The Florida Project and transgender protagonists in Tangerine,’ said back in 2018.

We are proud to celebrate his success and lasting impact on independent cinema.
