
SMS Alum Sam Feder’s Documentary Heightened Scrutiny Premieres at Hot Docs 2025
The School of Media Studies is proud to recognize the achievements of Sam Feder (MA Media Studies, 2004), whose latest documentary, Heightened Scrutiny, will have its Canadian premiere at the 2025 Hot Docs Festival.
Hot Docs is one of the most prominent documentary film festivals in the world, and Feder’s selection underscores their continued excellence in socially engaged, thought-provoking filmmaking. Heightened Scrutiny explores themes aligned with Feder’s ongoing commitment to justice, media critique, and the amplification of underrepresented voices.
Feder, an alum of The New School’s School of Media Studies, has built a distinguished career in nonfiction filmmaking. Their work is known for pushing the boundaries of documentary form while maintaining a strong ethical foundation and a focus on equity.
