Peter Asaro Joins Panel on AI Innovation and Global Security at NYU
Peter Asaro, Associate Professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School, will join a distinguished group of experts for a panel discussion on the role of the civilian AI community in mitigating the risks of artificial intelligence misuse for global peace and security.
The event, titled “Promoting Responsible Innovation in Artificial Intelligence for Peace and Security – Ensuring Greater Engagement of the AI Community on the Risks Presented by the Misuse of Civilian AI,” will take place on May 7, 2025, at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn. It is hosted by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the NYU Center for Responsible AI, and the NYU Center for Robotics & Embodied Intelligence.
As part of the broader EU-funded initiative promoting responsible innovation in AI, the evening will feature moderated and open discussions with researchers, civil society, industry leaders, and international delegations. Topics will include sustainable engagement strategies, education, and the challenges of AI governance in civilian applications.
