MA Alum Shih-Ching Tsou Premieres Debut Feature Left-Handed Girl at the Cannes Film Festival

Shih-Ching Tsou, an alum of the MA program, has premiered her debut solo feature film, Left-Handed Girl, at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Tsou, widely recognized for her longstanding collaboration with director Sean Baker (The Florida Project, Red Rocket), steps into the directorial spotlight with a compelling and emotionally resonant coming-of-age drama set in Taipei. Left-Handed Girl explores themes of adolescent alienation and identity with nuance and sensitivity. Early reviews, including one from Variety, describe the film as “a hauntingly tender portrait” and commend Tsou’s ability to capture the complexity of youth in transition.

Tsou has made significant contributions to independent cinema, both behind the camera and in collaborative production roles. Her work is noted for its realism, emotional depth, and commitment to underrepresented narratives. Left-Handed Girl marks an important milestone in her career and showcases her distinct voice as a filmmaker.

The university extends its sincere congratulations to Shih-Ching Tsou on this achievement and celebrates her continued success on the international stage.
