The Bishwanath and Sandhya Sinha Memorial Endowed Fellowship
Available for Academic Year 2022-2023
This annual fellowship will fund a research assistantship in the area of digital media studies with a particular emphasis on migration and creativity. The Sinha Memorial Fellowship is meant to stimulate excellence in Media Studies as a field of critical reflection and practice. The one-year fellowship is available to second-year M.A. students who have maintained a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Interested applicants should submit a statement of interest, CV, and evidence of accomplished work such as a portfolio or scholarly writing to the Dean of Media Studies.
Through this fellowship, the selected student can avail of a range of opportunities that include, but are not limited to: developing media strategies and perspectives on media intersections with migration, helping to build curriculum in this area of inquiry that is transnational in scope, pursuing networks and collaborations, building database skills, organizing a conference, and the like. The Sinha Fellow will have an affiliation with the Media and Migration Project.
This endowed fellowship has been established by Media Studies faculty member Sumita S Chakravarty to honor the memory of her parents, Bishwanath and Sandhya Sinha, and their deep love of learning. Prof. Chakravarty says of her parents, “They were incredibly kind, generous, and loving people. They were also very forward-looking and open-minded. I cannot think of a better way to share their legacy than to extend it to coming generations of our students.”
