New Documentary about NYC in the ’60s Showing at Film Forum this June

The documentary Desperate Souls, Dark City, and the Legend is showing at Film Forum in June, and there will be a Q&A with director Nancy Buirski and other leading voices during the opening nights.

Desperate Souls, Dark City, and the Legend features extensive archival material and compelling interviews, illuminating how the 1969 film “Midnight Cowboy”, directed by John Schlesinger, captured the essence of a time and a place in New York City in the ’60s.

The documentary is as much about the ’60s counterculture as it is about the making of this brilliant movie. Schlesinger’s foray into the world of lost souls in “Midnight Cowboy” remains as funny and tragic today as ever.
