Sustainable Systems First Year Field Trip

“Sustainable Systems” instructors Anne Attali & Miriam Josi took first year students out into Paris as part of their ongoing project about the water systems in Paris. They started off with a walk along the Seine River to observe and collect data for their project including the direction, vegetation and pollution level of the river.

Their observational walk concluded at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal where they were given a guided tour through the Agricultural Capital exhibition about the agricultural and industrial development of Paris. Maps compared how urban life and rural life were distributed across Paris in the 1900s versus today. Students learned about the relationship between both the urban world and the rural world, as well as the mutually beneficial harmony that exists between the city and farmers living in and around Paris.
