Parsons Paris

Parsons Paris takes the Folies Bergère and Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show

This past week, our students were invited to attend Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show at the Folies Bergère.

Many of our students were beyond excited to finally step in to this world famous Art Deco building, soaking in its architecture, craftsmanship and all of the details in every corner of the building – from bathroom door handles, to seat numbers.

Finally getting comfortable in their seats at around 8:00 pm, our students prepared themselves for a two hour show, bringing all of Jean Paul Gaultier’s works to life, from teddybears to plastic, from LGBTQ inspired garments to feathers, boas and sparkles.  And while Jean Paul Gaultier’s works were beyond beautiful, the dancers truly brought life into his designs.

The show was extremely inclusive taking race, gender, sexuality, love and bodies into consideration. The dancers were all talented in their own personal styles and showed their skills in voueging, hip hop, heels, contortion and even tap dance!

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show allowed viewers to look into his early career, observing his greatest fashion shows and creations to his nights in London while paying tribute to his own progress and process and the inspirations he had in the realms of film, music and dance.
