Parsons Paris

Student Internship Spotlight: Ariel Stark at Peclers

Where is your internship? Who is it for? What is the company known for?

My internship (which is ending next week) is at Peclers Paris. Peclers is is a trend forecasting agency that has been around since the 1970s and they work with a variety of different brands in the fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and home sectors.

What are your roles within the position?

I am the Creative Community Manager and work on the Communications/Digital team. I am responsible for finding/creating content for the Instagram/LinkedIn/Twitter/Facebook channels and scheduling them out. I am also in charge of communicating with all of the stylists who create the trend books and speak at events in order to ensure that we feature all of the various updates and inspirations from each department with a cohesive voice. I also attend and take photographs at the various company events.

How long is your internship? What are you hoping to learn during this time?

My internship started in January 2019 and has lasted for 6 months. I have learned a lot, especially in terms of building on my French vocabulary within the realm of fashion and brand communications.

What is the coolest/ most intriguing part of your internship?

We’ve had some great events at some of the largest fashion/art/design venues in Paris like Palais de Tokyo and Première Vision which have been new experiences for me.

How did you find and secure the internship? What was the process? What was ideal within your resume for the position?

I got the internship through Parsons – Virginie sent out an email last Fall with some of the current available internship opportunities and I applied. Then I received a phone call from my boss and had two interviews. I had to speak with one of the stylists at the company to ensure that my French was sufficient to work in the agency environment. I think that the fact that I have already had experience writing and working in other fashion communications departments really helped.

What advice would you give to others looking for an internship at this company or in this industry?

To present yourself as well-rounded, versatile, and a fast learner. You should also be organised and confident on a variety of communication platforms. The most important aspect of this job is to understand the company and to be able to tell a story in your copy writing. So show that!
