Clothing Swap (Parsons Paris Student Government X American University of Paris)

–  Abigail Olson, Member of Parsons Paris Student Government 2020/21

As part of the Sustainability Committee for the Parsons Paris Student Government, I organized a clothing swap in relation to Fashion Revolution Week. Reducing waste within the fashion industry is very important to me, so I thought it would be a great way to prolong students’ clothes’ lives. Many people start to clean out in the spring so I planned accordingly for the swap to take place in the spring, which also happened to work well with Fashion Revolution Week.

The swap directed more than 40 pieces of clothing away from immediate waste and gave them a whole new life. As this was also a collab with AUP, it was also a great way for Parsons students to engage with other university students in Paris.

In addition to the clothes that were swapped many also brought clothes that were in poor condition to be donated for recycling at La Textilerie, a local initiative that resells, repurposes, and recycles clothing and textiles.
