Community Live figure drawing sessions (Parsons Paris Student Government 2020/21)
– Aabha Sewak, AMT Representative of Parsons Paris Student Government 2020/21
Covid-19 related closures meant restaurants, bars and clubs shutting their doors, but also a temporary end of life drawing across the world. Having attended a grand total of one live figure drawing session at Parsons Paris like many other freshmen, we decided to build our skills with intimate live drawing sessions within our college community. Students across the university attended: they could wear whatever they felt comfortable in, and the rest of us drew quick 5-minute poses.
Each student took turns in posing, giving everybody a diverse variety of faces and bodies to draw. This artistic, yet relaxed experience helped us push our drawing skills to a greater level. Even with the short time limit of five minutes per pose to ensure the comfort of the model, many of us did successfully manage to capture a person’s essence. Personally, drawing my peers live helped me notice details about their personality and tested my drawing skills as I had to draw faces that were familiar to me. Even after this pandemic ends, I hope that these sessions remain a part of my weekly life.
