Louis Vuitton at Parsons Paris
Thursday November 25, Millie and Clara from Louis Vuitton visited the Romainville campus to meet our current students. We welcomed them in the fashion studio, where the senior fashion design students were working on their collection that they will present as part of their final thesis. The meeting started with a wonderful introductory presentation about the history and the vision of the brand, which also touched on its core values and the importance of its heritage. After the presentation, our students had a chance to ask their questions to the recruiters.
Regarding how much Louis Vuitton is working toward sustainability, Clara said that Louis Vuitton is working in the direction of incrementing upcycling, meaning the process of giving a second life to wasted materials, and that they are currently directly controlling their entire production chain. Clara mentioned that Luis Vuitton is looking for people who can challenge the company’s present initiatives for sustainability, and help them move forward.
Another student asked how a designer can apply for positions if their style is indigenous or unisex. According to the recruiters, women and menswear nowadays is very mixed and cross-referred. It is possible for designers to send their applications and portfolio to both departments or to a recruiter directly, and let them guide the candidate toward one or the other, and, once the direction is clear, tailor their portfolio accordingly.
It was also asked how close interns are working to the creative directors, and Clara and Millie answered that it really depends on the working style of the art director.
Finally, the question that many students want to know: is it important to speak French? And Clara and Millie replied that, especially if you are working in the women’s department, knowing French is always very appreciated.
Clara and Millie were also proud to confirm that the working environment is very diverse, and that they are looking to increase that diversity.
After the questions, students had the chance to talk individually with both recruiters, and give them their CV personally. It was a pleasure to welcome back Millie and to welcome Clara!
Here are some photos from the event.
We would also like to take this opportunity to send our love and support in memory of Louis Vuitton menswear art director, Virgil Abloh, who recently passed away.
