Guest Critique: Mona Kim!
Before the AMT senior mock exhibitions, the students had the opportunity to get feedback from Mona Kim during their critique on 9th February 2022. Mona Kim is a multi-disciplinary creative practitioner who is passionate about curating spaces and creating sensorial experiences for an audience. She was also present for the final fall critique of the AMT seniors in December. Her knowledge and deep insight challenged and guided the students to consider their message and their viewers carefully for the final AMT exhibition in May. Students were asked to think about how their works can be open to a varied audience and what was the intended meaning of their work along with its potential receptions.
There was an energetic exchange in the class between students, teachers, and the guest critic. Ideas, opinions, and questions were posed with care and constructiveness to make sure the students could apply new perspectives without shifting the core of their artworks. It was also helpful for the seniors to present their developments to Kim after a period of time to gain a fresh perspective. Personally, I found this critique quite invigorating as it asked of me to explain to the room and with that myself, what I really wanted to communicate with the audience and get to the core of my concept, which sometimes is easy to loose when one has been working so long and so closely with certain matters.
