Artist’s Digital Platform, ZeroOne, Visits AMT

Written by Willow Hayward AMT’25

AMT 3rd year Core Studio 4: Urban class had the pleasure of welcoming Ludovica Rosi, one of the co-founders of ZeroOne last week.  ZeroOne is a completely free platform that allows individuals to create and collect photos, videos, and artwork from other creators.

ZeroOne was created and co-founded by Ludovica Rosi, Colborn Bell, and Phillip Backus, and the platform launched in August 2023. Below, Ludovica Rosi shares a few words about the idea behind ZeroOne and the importance of minting and authenticating your personal works on the platform.

“In today’s digital-centric world, the journey of creators is increasingly taking place online, with sharing on the internet becoming an integral part of their daily routines. Recognizing the challenges and opportunities in this landscape, ZeroOne emerges as a pioneering platform, redefining social media by introducing the concept of ownership in addition to traditional sharing. This approach, powered by blockchain and other emerging technologies, provides creators with tools to authenticate and claim the digital content they share online, thereby empowering them to monetize and retain control over their work. ZeroOne effectively counters the prevalent issue of platforms monetizing content without providing proper compensation to creators and underscores the intrinsic value of online creations.

ZeroOne’s innovative model fosters a shift from passive likes to active collecting, transforming audiences into collectors and building incentivized, long-lasting interactions. This dynamic shift not only enhances engagement but also offers creators a path to profit and maintain control over their work in the constantly evolving digital space.”

For every creation you mint on ZeroOne, you can collect up to 10 works by other creators on the platform.  When minting a work, it allows you to create a number of editions, allowing people to “collect” your work, until there are no editions left.  Collecting in this way creates a bond between creator and viewer, allowing the viewer to also “own” your work.  The collectors of your work are able to sell it, allowing you to make royalties every time your work is sold.  It allows you to mint one creation every day, allowing a 23-hour cooldown in between minting your works. By minting a creation in ZeroOne, it “enables the authentication, ownership, and distribution of your content”.

From a student’s perspective in the arts, I think having these creative platforms is necessary to form bonds and be inspired by fellow creators. I also think it’s important to stay informed on the possibilities of putting your work in the digital realm, and the negatives and positives that come with it. As creators in this day and age, we must consider the environmental impact that our digital footprint leaves behind, and do our best to minimize this and the negative effects that blockchain technology can have. Conscious network design can dramatically reduce the energy consumption of blockchain and that’s worth noting.

ZeroOne will be releasing an app within the next few weeks, so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
