AMINA GALAL WINS ITS 2024 FASHION FILM
Congratulation to Amina Galal for winning the Fashion Film category at the International Talent Support competition in Trieste, Italy 2024. Amina’s film featured her BFA Fashion Design 2023 graduate collection entitled In Our Alleys.
IN OUR ALLEYS unfolds a poignant narrative of the evolving Egyptian culture, marked by the infusion of Western elements that collide with local traditions, resulting in a unique hybridization or a de-cultured culture. Over a year, I immersed myself in creating this collection, finding an inherent connection to its theme. Hailing from a family that migrated from the village of Beni Mazar to Cairo, my roots epitomize the deculturation process. Despite embracing modernity, our family house in Al-Menya, untouched since the 1900s, serves as the film’s backdrop, a testament to the clash of cultures. This film encapsulates my personal journey and that of many Egyptians, products of globalization and modernity, yet deeply rooted in our Egyptian heritage. Set against the backdrop of our family home, the narrative weaves through fashionable garments inspired by high-tech sportswear and knitwear, blending seamlessly with traditional silhouettes and patterns. It becomes a compelling story of the present, offering a glimpse into the future while honoring our past, a visual ode to the complexities of identity and the enduring connection to cultural roots.
