AMT Highlights: Celebrating Students in Art, Media and Technology

Written by Olina Olseth

We’re happy to share some exciting updates from our AMT community, spotlighting the achievements of three BFA Art, Media, and Technology seniors: Céline Mindus, Merrill Hewitt, and Willow Hayward. From exhibiting in galleries in Paris to captivating audiences at an international music festival, these students share insights into their experiences showcasing their creative practices and gaining professional experience across diverse platforms.

Céline Mindus and Merrill Hewitt recently exhibited their work at The Holy Art Gallery in Rue Notre Dame de Nazareth in Le Marais. This opportunity emerged when Céline discovered the gallery while researching local spaces in Paris, drawn by the accessibility and the chance to avoid the challenges of international shipping. She shared the opportunity with her peer Merrill, and both artists were selected through the gallery’s open call.

Merrill exhibited her thesis sculpture, Rapito, while Céline presented a selection of video, 2D/3D animation, and multimedia works. Both artists found the process of installing their pieces in such a historic and artistic district to be incredibly rewarding.

They noted that the gallery’s streamlined curation process—managed entirely by the gallery’s curator—freed them up to focus on their creative work. The Holy Art Gallery’s international presence in cities like London, LA, Amsterdam, and Seoul offered an added layer of visibility and professional exposure. As both prepare for their thesis exhibitions, this show marks an exciting milestone on their journeys as emerging artists.

Willow Hayward’s Creative Collaboration at EDC Mexico

Willow Hayward, also a senior in AMT, had a unique opportunity to showcase her 3D particle effect work at EDC Mexico, collaborating closely with a DJ to visually enhance their set. She presented her work to an incredible audience of over 90,000 people. Here’s how Willow described the experience:

“This opportunity came to me through a friend of a friend—someone who’s deeply connected within the festival circuit and has a strong background in DJing. They reached out with an exciting proposition: to collaborate on a visual component for their upcoming hour-long DJ set at EDC Mexico, one of the largest and most well-known techno festivals in the country.

They had come across some of my previous digital work created in Blender, and were particularly drawn to a 3D particle effect I had experimented with in a past project. That visual style in particular resonated with them, and they felt it could add something unique to their set. When I heard about the opportunity, I was thrilled—ecstatic, honestly—and immediately dove into the creative process.

I began by designing a few different visual concepts, each exploring a different direction with the 3D particle elements. This helped us collaboratively hone in on a visual language that aligned with their vision for the set. As things progressed, I was introduced to the VJ (Visual Jockey) team, who were simultaneously working on other aspects of the live visuals.

Our teams connected to figure out how to merge our graphics seamlessly. They walked me through how they intended to blend my visuals with theirs to form a single, cohesive experience on the screen. It was a collaborative and fluid process—an exciting intersection of technical coordination and artistic vision.

The moment I saw my visuals projected on that massive screen, in front of thousands of people, I was overwhelmed. It was a surreal and deeply affirming experience—one that reminded me why I create art in the first place. There’s nothing quite like the hope that your work might make someone feel even a fraction of what you feel while creating it.

On the final day of the festival, the attendance hit an incredible 90,000 people. It’s wild to imagine how many of those individuals may have seen my visuals—maybe even paused, noticed, or felt something. That thought alone still gives me chills.”
