TRANSFORMERS – MFA FASHION DESIGN AND THE ARTS LAUNCH EXHIBITION

Parsons Paris recently launched its new MFA program in Fashion Design and the Arts with the workshop and subsequent exhibition TRANSFORMERS, a showcase of sculptures and objects created from discarded clothing and textiles. These unwanted items, often considered as trash, were transformed into unique works of art addressing the issues of over-consumption and the frenetic pace of today’s fashion industry.

During an intense 10-day period of lectures, visits and workshops, the MFA program’s first group of students were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, rethink their own relationship to fashion, the consumption of garments and explore freely in order to find their very own creative and experimental approach to sustainability.

TRANSFORMERS is a collaboration between Parsons Paris and ERE Foundation, a philanthropic organization taking a stance for the environment by acting and encouraging sustainable behavior in art, fashion and other creative industries. All the discarded textile materials used by the students were sourced from ERE’s partner Le Relais, a sorting facility at Chanteloup-les-Vignes outside Paris.
