Reinvented visits of Paris: Integrative Seminar and Studio 1 – First Year
How are places telling stories? How can we better perceive the different layers of meaning hosted in buildings, street signs, people’s behaviors and interactions?
As part of Integrative Studio and Seminar 1, students were tasked with organizing a walk in Paris to answer these questions. Using frames of all sorts, or handouts pushing their comprehension of space and history, First Year students in Anne Attali’s class walked through Paris to revisit famous locations and discover new meanings in them. Some groups focused on Palais Garnier where the national French opera is located, a few blocks from Saint Roch campus, other explored the newly restored Châtelet-Les Halles plaza, and finally some questioned the meaning of Jeff Koons’ Bouquet of Tulips on the Champs Elysées.
