Student Internship Spotlight: Pamela Arellano Zameza
Where is your internship? who is it for? what is the company known for?
My internship is at Musée d’Orsay, it’s for predatory exhibition research. MDO is of one of the most highly visited public art museums in Paris juxtaposed by the Louvre housing mainly impressionist/post-impressionist well known french works of art
What are your roles?
I will be focusing on doing research for an upcoming exhibition that has material in English not only french. I’ll also be helping with a new addition of wall texts that will be implemented throughout the museum in terms of museology since that was apparently lacking according to observations by curators. I will also be doing some social media updates with nightly events.
How long is your internship? what are you hoping to learn?
My internship will be two months intensive. I’m hoping to learn how an art museum of a large size in a large city operates. I’ve done a museum internship in a small city with a small private collection so it would be interesting to compare the experiences.
What is the coolest part of your internship?
The coolest part of the internship will probably be going into restricted spaces that only curators are allowed in and digging into archives that the museum owns. Also working closely with a curator of 19th century paintings shall be interesting to see what daily tasks for a curator entail .
How did you get the internship?
I found the internship through a past connection from Parsons.
What advice would you give to others looking for an internship at this company or in this industry?
Always look into opportunities sent to your New School email. You might be surprised at what you’ll find!
