Musée de l’Homme
Led by instructor Emmanuel Cohen, students visited the Musée de l’Homme, recently redesigned to exhibit both their ethnographic collections and contemporary art.
To prepare the museum visit, students engaged in a discussion about the evolution of art collections and museums before experiencing how new epistemological, aesthetic and ethical discourses affect the way works are presented and the experience of the viewer.
Exploring subjects such as what information frames the work presented to the viewers senses, or how polemically-obtained objects are presented, students visited the Galerie de l’homme to form their own understanding of the French artistic and cultural scene.
In a world where the place of culture is challenged on a daily basis, the Musée de l’Homme offers a privileged place to start semester-long discussions on the role of art in Paris and in our lives.
