The New School’s City Visionary Awards Honor Susan L. Foote, BK Fulton, Wes Jackson, and Daniel R. Tishman

This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, November 13th at Aspire, One World Trade Center in New York City

New York, November 12, 2024 – The New School will hold its second annual City Visionary Awards on November 13, 2024, which recognizes honorees who strive to make New York City a more equitable, sustainable, and joyful place through high-impact work that drives bold progress and innovation. This year’s City Visionary Awardees are Susan L. Foote, BK Fulton, Wes Jackson, and Daniel R. Tishman. Funds raised from the City Visionary Awards support scholarships across The New School, helping the next generation make their mark on New York City and the world around us.

“City Visionary Awards reflect our shared commitment to promote innovation, inclusivity, and the transformative power of knowledge,” said Joel Towers, President of The New School. “The New School is uniquely positioned to tackle the most pressing challenges of our time through groundbreaking education, research, scholarship, and creative practice and these honorees embody the leadership and vision that inspire our next generation of leaders.”

“To be recognized at the City Visionary Awards along with my fellow Honorees, whose work and impact I find so inspiring, is truly humbling. The New School, and especially The New School for Social Research, has been a vital and engaging part of my life both intellectually and socially. To be part of this rich diverse community at this pivotal moment in our history is a privilege and a joy. I look forward to celebrating the work we have done, and will do, to propel this beloved institution into the future.” – Susan L. Foote

“I spent my first 50 years doing what I was trained to do. Now I get to spend the rest of my life doing what God made me to do – telling the great human stories. I became a professional in New York City,  thanks to the New School and my Sloan Fellowship. I will be forever grateful.” – BK Fulton

“It is a privilege and an honor to be recognized by this award. My time at The New School was very special and pivotal to my development. It gave me the space to be curious and along with other scholars and peers, we spent cherished time examining theory as well as honing our practice. These are skills I still use to this day. It is great to be reconnected with the network, and I look forward to having a great time at the City Visionary Awards.” – Wes Jackson

“It’s truly special to receive this honor. Our family has a longstanding partnership with the New School that my father sparked more than four decades ago. I am proud to collaborate with the New School and its students to confront climate change and its social impacts.” – Daniel R. Tishman

Last year’s City Visionary Award honorees, all of whom were graduates of The New School, included Lorie Slutsky, former President, New York Community Trust; Stevie Walker-Webb, Writer, Activist, & Obie Award-winning & Tony Award-nominated Director; and Jordan E. Cooper, Obie Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated Actor and Playwright. The event raised more than $150,000 for New School scholarships.
