Uncharted Tesol

Mark Forehand, MA TESOL ’09, Georgia, USA

“I started the program in 2007 and finished in 2009 as part of the first group of 15 students in the MA TESOL. During my time in the program I was working full time in Kyiv, Ukraine as Director of Studies at International House Kyiv and as a school inspector for the home company, International House World Organization. I continued to work IH until 2014 when I moved to Kennesaw, GA to work at Kennesaw State University as the Director of the Intensive English Program. I am currently the Assistant Dean for International Graduate Programs and Special Projects and Interim Executive Director of the Siegel Institute of Leadership Character and Ethics. Because I am able to work with international students to this day, I enjoy the work I am doing despite its high administrative load. I hope to eventually turn this administrative experience, and my TESOL experience in to an administrative position abroad again.

The MA program is why I am still in education. The program allowed me to add to my CELTA certificate and then advertise myself to the US education systems once I had completed my work internationally. In addition, while living internationally, the MA, with its connections to Jeremy Harmer and Scott Thornbury provided me with more cache than an MA which was not from a program with international collaborators who are well known throughout the world in this field.”
