Meet the Dean
Welcome to the Bachelor’s program for Adults and Transferred Students (BPATS) at the School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS)!
The New School is for students at every stage of life and BPATS is a unique and special place where great academic endeavors are dedicated to adult learning. We are the program that best manifests The New School’s vision and mission focusing on equity and social justice with an ongoing commitment to serve diverse populations.
In particular, we offer degree completion opportunities in various subject areas, including humanities and social sciences, food studies, media studies, management and leadership, as well as environmental, global, and urban studies. The BPATS curriculum is built on combining scholarly tradition and critical issues and the principle of practice-based learning addressing real issues in the real world. With an emphasis on written and verbal communication, our curriculum is also designed to promote active collaboration, research-based inquiry, proactive and self-directed progress, and community engagement.
We know your journey toward completing your degree holds many challenges, particularly when it comes to balancing academic work with career, family, and other life challenges. Our faculty and staff are tremendously talented and seasoned and ready to help you every step of the way to achieving your academic goals. We also pride ourselves in creating and sustaining a culture of respect, collaborative inquiry, and practical learning, while offering intimate engagement with our students via ongoing mentoring and advising.
We will do our best to equip you with the knowledge that the world demands but also in helping you live more meaningful and reflective lives. In order to get the most of your experience here, I challenge you to do your best, to expand your interests, to engage in your courses and in the world. We so look forward to working with you on this great journey.
Warm regards,
