Alumni News: Urban Studies Alum Melanie Quiroz co-authors new report

Melanie Quiroz, Urban Studies Alum and current New School Public and Urban Policy MS student, authored a new report from the Center for New York City Affairs with Clara Hemphill, Public and Urban Policy PhD student Nicole Mader, and Laura Zingmond titled Screened Schools: How to Broaden Access and Diversity.

This report takes an in-depth look at secondary school academic screened admission. According to the report, “…these academically screened secondary schools offer “islands of opportunity” for Black and Hispanic students in low-income neighborhoods.” The report also “calls attention to unscreened schools that also have impressive records of graduating college-ready Black, Hispanic, and low-income students.”
