Global Studies COVID-19 Archive

We wanted a space to reflect critically, as a community, on what the COVID-19 pandemic will leave in its wake. 

How will we remember this pandemic? What will we choose to remember? What will become normalized and what will never feel normal again? What will be its leftovers, what will remain? And what will fade away?

Archiving—and other practices of remembering—are crucial to the work we do in our program; we choose not to forget and we hold ourselves accountable to the past and the future. As part of this process, we called for student submissions of any form (diary entries; essays; pictures; illustrations; films; research papers; audio-recording; twitter threads; etc…) that constitute a reflection on the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Asked By Kids: COVID19 Coloring Book

  AskedByKids: COVID19 is an educational children’s coloring book with an interactive narrative and important facts about the COVID-19 virus. This coloring book was created by Ana Holschuh, Global Studies and Integrated Design, and Julie Vantrease, Integrated Design.

  

  

• Equilibrium - A Musical Composure

  Equilibrium is a musical composition performed by students at The New School, submitted by Alyssa Chetrick, Global Studies & Jazz. 

  
  A note from Alyssa: Equilibrium comes with the pretext that there is a zero-sum game in the international realm where the rational nation-state seeks only self-survival and economic growth through the maximization of profit and the commodification and consumption of bodies and resources. The song is stating, however, that our modes of growth and security are unsustainable and irrational on a collapsing playing field (finite resources and mutually assured market/environmental collapse). The song ultimately goes on to predict a collapse of interconnected global systems in the near future, beginning with and including the environment, nation-state legitimacy, and the global economy. The song implies that the collapse of manmade systems would be the point of equilibrium; the point of stability for the planet.
