Helmuth Plessner held numerous teaching and research positions, including the chair in philosophy at the University of Groningen, chair of the German Sociological Association, membership in The Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, and the first Theodor Heuss Foundation professorship at The New School for Social Research. Among his publications available in English are The Limits of Community: A Critique of Social Radicalism (Humanity Books, 1999); and Laughing and Crying: A Study of the Limits of Human Behavior (Northwestern University Press, 1970).
