. . . The main character, New York native Ann Elizabeth Michel, always thought her family’s heritage was German – until she discovers that her background is German-Jewish. The first act takes place on Park Avenue in New York City. The second and third acts take place in Dobrodzień, Poland (the town called “Guttentag,” in German Silesia before World War II).
