Spring 2021 Visiting PhD Students from the University of Lower Silesia
This Spring semester we are pleased to welcome to The New School for Social Research six visiting doctoral students, affiliated with TCDS, from the University of Lower Silesia in Wroclaw, Poland, advisor prof. Lotar Rasiński. They will be auditing graduate courses in Anthropology, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Politics, and Sociology. Their brief bios and more information about their work in progress are below.

Marta Gontarska is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Applied Studies, University of Lower Silesia in Wroclaw, Poland. She has over 15 years of experience in cooperation with civil society organizations on critical global citizenship education both on national and European level. Her current research interests include: social learning, social movements, global citizenship, pedagogy of resistance and new activism.

Ula Kłobuszewska holds a degree in Journalism and Social Communication from the University of Wrocław and is now pursuing a PhD in education at the University of Lower Silesia. Since 2007, she has been involved in international educational and research projects at the International Institute for the Study of Culture and Education at the ULS. There she has organized local and international conferences and scientific seminars; coordinated international study programs in partnerships with European and American universities (including The New School). Her research interests include globalization, international education, learning and teaching of foreign languages, and alternative forms of adult education.

Marta Morris is a 1st year PhD student at the Faculty of Applied Studies, University of Lower Silesia in Wroclaw, Poland. She also works in the United Kingdom as a teacher in a highly diverse primary school in London. Her professional and academic interests evolve around social justice, discrimination, educational inequalities and distance learning.

Agnieszka Paczkowska, Master of Arts (Art History and Pedagogy). She graduated from University of Wrocław, Poland. Since 2003 has been working for international companies in the field of Human Resources Management as well as Learning and Development. Certified coach (International Coaching Federation) and trainer. Since 2018 she has been participating in doctoral study at University of Lower Silesia, Wrocław Poland. In her studies she is particularly interested in learning and transition process of women in business environment. In her focus area there is also an aspect of women professional roles intertwined with the role of woman established in Polish culture and tradition.

Joanna Panciuchin is a PhD Candidate of Pedagogy at the University of Lower Silesia. Currently, she is working on her doctoral dissertation about issues connected with education, emancipation, democracy and Wroclaw’s community of Romanian Roma. She is a co-editor in scientific journal Culture-History-Globalization. She has published in Cultural Studies, Culture-History-Globalization, ΠΡΑΞΗMΑ. Journal of Visual Semiotics, Le Monde Diplomatique. Polish Edition.

Kamila Prociów is a PhD candidate at the University of Lower Silesia in Poland. For more than 10 years she has been involved with NGOs and Human Rights education. She also works in a primary school as a student councilor.
