ARRIVAL: We ask that you arrive in Wrocław during the day on Wednesday, July 10. There will be registration held on–site in the afternoon, at which you will receive your institute materials. There will be a welcoming reception at the hotel that evening, and classes will start the morning of Thursday, July 11th. (If you have problems making this date, please contact us.)
DEPARTURE: You are expected to depart on Friday, July 26. The final reception will be held on the evening of July 25, and breakfast will be the last meal served on July 26.
HOSTEL RECOMMENDATIONS: If you are planning to come earlier or stay later than the dates of the institute, here is a list of nearby, inexpensive hostel options; it is also easy to find reasonable hotels through websites like Orbitz, Expedia, and Kayak.
• Boogie Hostel (http://www.boogiehostel.com/)
• Dizzy Daisy Hostel (http://www.dizzydaisy.eu/hostel-wroclaw-eng)
Or find other hostels at http://www.hostelworld.com/hostels (type in Wroclaw, Poland)
TRAVEL TO WROCŁAW: Many major airlines fly into Wrocław – unfortunately none directly from NYC – including LOT, Lufthansa, SAS, United, etc. We have seen reasonable fares on travel websites such as Student Universe, Expedia, Kayak and Orbitz.
You might also find it cheaper to fly into a major airport (i.e., Berlin, Warsaw, or London) then take a train (see raileurope.com) or a discount airline (Ryan Air – ryanair.com – and Wizz Air – wizzair.com fly to Wrocław). The closes major cities to Wrocław are Berlin (about 5-6 hours by train to Wrocław), Warsaw (about 5-7 hours by train), and Prague (about 5-6 hours by train).
TRAVEL FROM WROCŁAW AIRPORT TO THE PARK HOTEL: The Park Hotel is relatively close to the Wrocław airport – approx. 12km; 30 minute driving. You can take a taxi from the airport or use public transportation (local buses and/or tram).
- Traveling from the airport by taxi: There is a taxi stand at the airport. Taxi prices will vary depending on the driver, but the taxi to the Park Hotel should not cost more than 70 zloty. Although it is unlikely that the official taxis at public stands would ask for more than 70 zloty, still, we recommend agreeing on the price before getting into the taxi. Do not take a “private” taxi that is not clearly marked as a taxi (with a company name and phone number) as these can be more expensive. You will need to give the taxi driver the full name and exact address of the hotel: “Hotel Państwowej Inspekcji Pracy, ul. M. Kopernika 9″ (near Hala Stulecia or Centennial Hall in Szczytnicki Park – which any taxi driver will know)
In case of a problem, the telephone number at the hotel is + (48) 071 371 0300.
- Traveling from the airport by public transportation: Getting to Park Hotel by bus and/or tram will take you approximately one hour. You will need to get to the city center, i.e. the train station, first, and then take a tram or bus from the train station to the hotel.
1. Take the #406 bus from the airport to the train station. The bus leaves the airport every 20-30 mins; it is about a 30-minute ride. The stop is called either Dworcowa or Dworzec Główny PKP, and it is the last bus stop. The bus ticket (“Bilet” in Polish) can be purchased at a ticket machine at the bus stop by cash or credit card. On the bus/ tram you can buy tickets only by credit card.
Bus/tram ticket prices:
SINGLE PASS – 3.00 ZLOTY
60-MIN PASS – 4.40 ZLOTY
90-MIN PASS – 6.00 ZLOTY
24-HOUR PASS – 11 ZLOTY
+1.50 ZLOTY FOR A LUGGUAGE
To travel from the airport to the hotel we recommend buying a 60-min pass.
If you have an ISIC student card, you can get a discounted student ticket.
2A. From the train station, take the #2 tram, going toward “BISKUPIN”, to the tram stop called “ZOO,” near Wroblewskiego and Kopernika streets. As you get off the tram at the ZOO stop, cross the street and walk northeast up “ul. M. Kopernika” street (it only heads one direction) until you reach the Park Hotel on your right (building number 9). This is less than 0.5 km from the tram stop. In Polish, the hotel is called Hotel Państwowej Inspekcji Pracy.
2B. or, from the train station, take buses #145 or #146 going toward “SĘPOLNO”, to the bus stop called “TRAMWAJOWA,” near Wroblewskiego and Wittiga streets. At the TRAMWAJOWA stop, cross the street and walk north on “ul. Tramwajowa” street for about 0.25 km. Here ul. Tramwajowa turns into “ul. Edwarda” street. Follow Edwarda for 0.25 km until you come to “ul. M. Kopernika” street. Take a left on Kopernika, and you should see the Park Hotel (building number 9) on your left. In Polish, the hotel is called Hotel Państwowej Inspekcji Pracy.
TRAVEL FROM WROCŁAW TRAIN STATION TO THE PARK HOTEL:
- Traveling from the airport by taxi: You can take a taxi from the train station to the hotel. It is approximately 4.5km – about a 10 minute drive. The taxi should not cost more than 50 zloty. We suggest that you try to establish the price before you start the ride.
